Separating PFPS and Art from hot collection page

PFPS have been dominating the hot collections section for some time. It makes art discovery more difficult, so I propose a feature that separates the two. One section for PFP related projects and other for art.

Be able to hide item(s) from one's collection or created pages, hide Objkts from certain marketplaces, etc.

I suggest 3 tabs, and using different names since PFPs aren’t necessarily not art:
- Marketplaces (hicetnunc, fxhash, etc)
- Collections (e.g. PFPs; ottez, Tezzardz)
- Singulars (1/1 or limited edition NFTs; aka ‘art’)

Agreed. This is the way forward. Lots of new artists and small collectors that can't afford PFPs anyway.

My main question is who would be responsible for tagging them?

Would we rely on artists and projects to tag them as collectable projects or would this be on the moderators of objkt?

For me, it would make sense for the artist to determine when minting whether it's a collectible or an artistic project (knowing that a "collectible" can also be considered art).

Agreed. Also, instead of asking the artist to "classify" their work ("is this art or a pfp"?) ask "where should this work appear objkt.com: under art or under collectibles" making it more a practical display issue and less a (loaded) categorising issue.

I like PFPS and generative projects. But their dominance of top sales has disconnected me from new artists and collectors in general. I used to rely on the alpha to inform my own collecting. Now I am cut off from the culture. Cannot see who is trending and have no direction as to which wallets to study. I firmly believe it has led to the current existential crisis gripping Tezos art culture. The H=N vibe and energy of 2021 is ancient history.

top sales limited by 2 max per account at any given time + filtering the distinction between collectibles and everything else could help bring back the HEN vibe :)

I more or less agree with the sentiment that drives klick's comment - framed as it is, it makes the basis of the proposal a philosophical problem that could otherwise be avoided. It may seem merely verbal, but it likely cuts much deeper. You may not even need a distinguishing category for the rest of them, there could just be a separate category option entitled "collectibles", and then the rest. Perhaps there could be a strong guideline that suggests when to list a project as a collectible or not. If it's not left up to the project owners to decide, then I imagine there might need to be a review panel.

I think it would be more inclusive and less alienating to people if we defined the PFPs as "collectibles" or something like that, rather than "art" and "PFPs". PFPs can be art, art can be PFPs. It's pretty subjective and I don't want to see a rift between the community over something like this.

Strongly agree with this.
